L'Orangeraie Syrah Pays D'OC
Availability:28 In Stock
85% Syrah, 15% Viogner. Deep color with cherry reflection. Aromas of Mediterranean spices, cassis mingled with apricot and fresh grapes. The mouth is full, round, backed by red fruit aromas and a tannic sweetness.
Dark red, almost purple color. Typically exuberant Syrah fruit (blackberry, raspberry) combines with the aromas of the garrigue – thyme, licorice, boxwood. A rich, round mouthfeel with fine tannins, and a dry, mineral finish.
This is 85% Syrah co-fermented with15% Viognier from France. Garnet in color, ruby at the rim, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has some boysenberries and smoke. Medium bodied with light tannins. On the palate, cranberries, black cherries and some char. Moderate finish. This is a nice wine although I would have a hard time guessing Syrah if tasting blind. It drinks easy and price right. Drink over the next few years. It would work well with Indian food.
A blend of red and white grapes in a red wine seems odd and yet is common practice in the Rhône Valley. Syrah and viognier are the best known of such pairings, used here in this fruity, full-bodied and sun-drenched red from vines close to Carcassonne in the Languedoc.
