Vintage Notes
The 2018 vintage proved nearly ideal. Ample winter rains were followed by lots of spring and early summer sunshine. Bud break and flowering were slightly later than usual, but coincided with ideal weather conditions for healthy fruit set. The mild summer was followed by an equally ideal fall, allowing fruit to ripen with ample flavor and complexity with moderate sugar levels.
Winemaker Notes
This Petite Sirah has developed into a very sought-after wine in the Girard portfolio, with fans of the variety looking to our bottling for the characteristic heady perfume, inky dark color, intense tannins and balanced oak integration.
Tasting Notes
The nose reveals concentrated aromas of cedar, black plum and red currant jam, jasmine tea, dusty earth and tobacco. The palate is dense with flavors of blackberry preserves, vanilla, and savory dried herbs. The finish reveals notes of oak influence—spice, vanilla and savory barrel toast. The tannins are bold, ripe and integrated, creating a lingering and mouth-coating finish.
