“For us, it’s just the classic,” says Charlie. For the Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, the goal is simple: utilize the lots that are most distinctly Red Mountain to create a wine that is a clear representation of the varietal, vintages, and growing region. This means bright fruit characteristics with juicy acidity, good concentration, and chalky tannins. “It is just one of those wines, for us, that is consistent with classic Red Mountain: black fruit, good structure, and good concentration. There is a decent amount of oak melted into it…you can tell it’s there but it is still fruit driven. With a wine like this, you just can’t go wrong.” We think of this as the perfect balance of a high end wine, with premium vineyard sites, but made in a style that is quite approachable when it’s young.
